AP Declares Bloomberg the Winner of NYC Mayoral Election

From the New York Times Campaign page:

NEW YORK MAYOR(As of 10:04 p.m.)1,645 of 6,063 (27 %) reporting.
Candidate
Votes
Michael R. Bloomberg (R)
186,704(56%)
Fernando Ferrer (D)
137,082(41%)

10:16 PM-NY1 reports that Ferrer called Bloomberg to congratulate him on winning the election.

10::31 PM-Ferrer's concession speech:
"I'm truly the luckiest man in the world."
That he got 41% of the vote, I'll agree with that. Although I had predicted to friends that Bloomberg would have a 55-44 or 55-45 win, it was very easy to see Ferrer polling in the low 30s.

Ferrer's concession speech is sounding like a campaign speech (for being Bronx Borough President again, by the numbers he is citing about his tenure). Is he going to run yet again in 2009?

10:38 PM-Now it's starting to sound like a victory speech.

10:58 PM-WNBC's polling results show Proposition 2 winning thus far with 56% of the vote while NY1 reports on the television that it is too close to call. Curious...

11:08 PM-Magic Johnson introduces Mayor Bloomberg. The Strange Quotient is off the charts.

11:20 PM-From NY1's real-time returns:

11:26 PM-Dominic Carter on NY1 saying Bloomberg is close to a record 20-point Republican win. And at 11:27, as I write this, the word "mandate" is uttered by Carter. Tell that to the City Council.

11:28 PM-The music for the election coverage on NY1 as it came to a close is awesome. I wish all news stations had good, inspirational, makes-me-want-to-go-outside-and-debate-something music. But not all of them do. Bravo, NY1!
